No, they are two separate sessions and you are required to attend both sessions. We recommend not to schedule both sessions on the same day.

New Student Orientation will prepare you for life as a student on campus. You will be introduced to various resources on campus, meet other new students, be mentored by an Orientation team member, discover Hokie traditions, interact with the Hokie Community, and learn about ways to get involved.

Academic Advising/Course Registration is when you will meet with your academic advisor and discuss important information for your major and courses. This will also be a time you may make changes to your schedule and discuss any expected credits.

You should have received an email from orientation@vt.edu on December 15th to your Virginia Tech email address. This email has a unique link for your specific orientation registration page. If you have questions about registering for the New Student orientation session or need to change your session, please email orientation@vt.edu.

You will receive an email after December 6, 2021, to your Virginia Tech email address providing you instructions on how to schedule an appointment for your Academic Advising/Course Registration appointment.

You will be pre-registered for some courses by that time and the registration hold preventing you from registering on your own will be removed once you attend the appointment. You will have the opportunity to make any necessary changes to your schedules during and after your academic advising session.
