Ross W. Greene, of Freeport, Maine, earned a doctorate in clinical psychology from Virginia Tech in 1989 after completing a bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Florida. He served on the faculty at Harvard Medical School for over 20 years and is the founding director of the nonprofit organization Lives in the Balance. He currently holds adjunct professorships in the Department of Psychology at Virginia Tech and the Faculty of Science at the University of Technology in Sydney, Australia.
Greene is the creator of Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS), an innovative, evidence-based approach for helping children with concerning behaviors and their families. He has authored several influential books, including The Explosive Child, Lost at School, Lost & Found, and Raising Human Beings, and he developed and executive produced The Kids We Lose, an award-winning documentary released in 2018. His work has been implemented in schools, inpatient psychiatric units, and juvenile detention facilities, leading to significant reductions in recidivism, discipline referrals, detentions, suspensions, and the use of restraint and seclusion.
A sought-after speaker, Greene lectures globally, shaping the practices of educators, mental health professionals, and policymakers. To support future research and application of the CPS approach, he established the Ross W. Greene Graduate Fellowship in the Department of Psychology at Virginia Tech.
