For the College of Science

The College of Science wishes to recognize and honor the achievements of our alumni. 

Nominations are now being accepted online for the 2022 College of Science Alumni Awards.

COS Outstanding Recent Undergraduate Alumni Award

COS Outstanding Recent Graduate Alumni Award

This award is given to an outstanding young alumnus or alumna who has demonstrated extraordinary leadership in their career field.  It acknowledges achievements and contributions in research and/or practice.  

  • Graduated in 2011 or after
  • Nominations from department committees, alumni, stakeholders of the college, Advancement
  • Departments can recognize their nominees internally at department events if they choose
  • Contributions to field (60%) (Academia, Government, Industry, Non-profit, Entrepreneurship, Leadership, Intellectual property, Impacts on literature, Policy makers, Community development and empowerment)
  • Leadership/Service to Virginia Tech, college, department, or community illustrating the university’s commitment to Ut Prosim (35%) 
  • Service/Engagement/Philanthropy to Virginia Tech (5%) 

 

COS Alumni Career Achievement Award (Academia, Government/Industry)

This award is given to an established alumnus or alumna who has demonstrated extraordinary leadership in the career field. 

  • Graduated more than 10 years ago
  • Nominations from department committees, alumni, stakeholders of the college, Advancement
  • Departments can recognize their nominees internally at department events if they choose
  • Contributions to field (60%) (Academia, Government., Industry, Non-profit, Entrepreneurship, Leadership, Scholarship, Policy makers, Community outreach, development and empowerment, Innovation)
  • Leadership/Service to Virginia Tech, college, department or community illustrating the university’s commitment to Ut Prosim (30%)
  • Service/Engagement/Philanthropy to Virginia Tech (10%)

 

College of Science Leadership Award

This award recognizes the leadership of an individual who has had a major impact on the college, department, or any of its constituent groups.  The volunteer should have shown great dedication and outstanding leadership. 

  • Nominations from department committees, alumni, stakeholders of the college, Advancement
  • Departments can recognize their nominees internally at department events if they choose
  • Leadership to Virginia Tech, college, department or community illustrating the university’s commitment to Ut Prosim (70%)
  • Contributions to field (20%) (Academia, Government, Industry, Non-profit, Entrepreneurship, Leadership, Scholarship, Policy makers, Community outreach, development and empowerment, Innovation
  • Service/Engagement/Philanthropy to Virginia Tech (10%)

 

College of Science Ut Prosim Award

This award recognizes an  individual who has demonstrated Ut Prosim through a contribution of service in the spirit of Ut Prosim for the betterment of society.  This could be in a professional or volunteer capacity.

  • Nominations from department committees, alumni, stakeholders of the college, Advancement
  • Departments can recognize their nominees internally at department events if they choose
  • Service to Virginia Tech, college, department or community illustrating the university’s commitment to Ut Prosim (70%)
  • Contributions to field (20%) (Academia, Government., Industry, Non-profit, Entrepreneurship, Leadership, Scholarship, Policy makers, Community outreach, development and empowerment, Innovation)
  • Service/Engagement/Philanthropy to Virginia Tech (10%)

 

College of Science Honorary Alumni Award

This award recognizes any friend of the college of has not received a degree from Virginia Tech.  This individual should have shown extraordinary leadership, service, and/or philanthropic contributions demonstrating Ut Prosim to a department, school, and/or program, or the college.
