Honors College students Arianna Krinos (in purple) and Aimee Maurais (in blue) recently participated in the Mathematical Contest in Modeling, a 4 day undergraduate math modeling challenge. They were among only 16 teams from a field of 10,670 worldwide to be selected as Outstanding Winners of the competition. Only 2 US teams were so designated. They won a prize from the Mathematical Association of America, and will split a $10k scholarship.

Some come to it for pure love of discovery, for the challenge of solving the seemingly unsolvable.

Others come to it on a personal mission, seeking to lessen or fix a problem that plagues society, in hopes of curing a disease that afflicts a family member, or mitigate climate change, or improve the health of their hometown.

Whatever the problem, regardless of the catalyst that draws in a person, these days Science offers a path to the solutions.
