2022 College of Science Inclusion and Diversity Fellows Call for Applications
The Inclusion and Diversity Committee of the College of Science invites applications for the College Inclusion and Diversity Fellowship Program. This fellowship is to support faculty or staff in the College of Science who are interested in assisting the COS Director of Inclusion and Diversity in planning, implementing, coordinating, and assessing the College's efforts in advancing inclusivity for, and diversity of, all the stakeholders in the College: students, faculty, and staff. We are looking for applicants who have a track record of increasing diversity, improving the climate at VT for diverse groups, and/or educating members of the VT community to appreciate an increasingly diverse society – and are interested in continuing this work in a more formal role for the coming year.
The Application Packet should include:
● A self-statement (1-2 pages). The self-statement should describe the nominee’s interest and previous experience with diversity initiatives within the college and a description of goals/programs/plans they would like to initiate in the coming year. Such proposals might include developing supports for current faculty, programs for undergraduates, and/or outreach initiatives. Applications will be reviewed based on the potential impact of these plans.
● Names and current contact information for three references. The COS Diversity Committee will contact these individuals to learn more about the nominee’s history with diversity activities. One of the references should be the department head/chair to indicate that you have reviewed this potential appointment with them and that you have departmental encouragement for this fellowship.
Applications will be reviewed by the COS Diversity Committee. The committee will make recommendations to the Dean of the College of Science, who will make the final selection(s).
The Fellowship will come with a $4,000 stipend and access to a budget to support the enactment of programs and initiatives. Appointments will be made for one-year terms, with the possibility of renewal.
Applications Due date: Oct 22, 2021
Questions about the fellowship may be addressed to Dr. Estrella Johnson (firstname.lastname@example.org), the COS Director of Inclusion and Diversity. Applications should be submitted electronically at the email address above
