The College of Science has specific requirements for Area 4, Area 5, and Area 6.
- Area 1: Writing and Discourse
- 6 credit hours (two courses) from first year writing courses
- Area 2: Ideas, Cultural Traditions, and Values
- 6 credit hours (two courses) from selected CLE approved courses
- Some courses in this section can be counted for Area 6 credit; remember that they CANNOT be used to count for BOTH Area 2 and Area 6.
- Some courses in this section can be counted for Area 7 credit, these courses will satisfy the Area 7 requirement and the Area 2 requirement simultaneously.
- Area 3: Society and Human Behavior
- 6credit hours (two courses) from selected CLE approved courses
- Some courses in this section can be counted for Area 7 credit, these courses will satisfy the Area 7 requirement and the Area 3 requirement simultaneously.
- Area 4: Scientific Reasoning and Discovery
- 6 credit hours (two courses) from selected CLE approved courses
- Courses must be taken in a sequential order and most majors require student to complete the corresponding labs
- Sequence constitutes courses numbers that end with 5 and 6, for example, BIOL 1105 Principles of Biology (3) + BIOL 1115 Principles of Biology Lab (1), and BIOL 1106 Principles of Biology (3) + BIOL 1116 Principles of Biology Lab (1)
- Area 5: Quantitative and Symbolic Reasoning
- 6 credit hours (two courses) from selected CLE approved courses
- Courses must be taken in sequential order
- Many departments require specific math sequences
- Area 6: Creativity and Aesthetic Experience
- College of Science requires one 3 credit hour course (a single course) from selected CLE approved courses
- Some courses in this section can be counted for Area 2 credit; remember that they CANNOT be used to count for BOTH Area 6 and Area 2
- Area 7: .Critical Issues in a Global Context
- 3 credit hours (one course) from selected CLE approved courses
- Some courses in this section can be counted for Area 2 or Area 3 credit, these courses will satisfy the Area 7 requirement and the Area 2 or Area 3 requirement simultaneously.
