Accepting the Offer What Next?
Once you accept the offer of admission and Virginia Tech has received your matriculation fee, follow the instructions provided about registering for Summer Orientation.
Summer Orientation
This is a two day event that will allow you to become acquainted with the orientation leaders, departmental advisors, and current students on campus. During this time you will receive a lot of information about campus life, registering for classes, and just getting to know other new students.
Registering for Orientation
- While orientation is listed for the last three weeks in July, not all departments will participate every day. Open sessions will be listed when you register for summer orientation.
- If you do not see your major listed on a particular day, this means that either the department is not advising during this session or the session is filled to capacity.
Changing Orientation Dates
- If you need to change your orientation date, you will need to log back into the system and register for a new session.
- If the session you are searching for is full, you will need to continue to check the web site for openings. As students begin to rearrange their sessions, they will become available.
- PLEASE NOTE! Due to safety of everyone we cannot override a full session.
Changing Majors
If you feel you have chosen the wrong major, you have the option to inquire about the possibility of being accepted into another major.
- Send an e-mail with your name, application number, and your request to mailto:appchange@vt.edu
- All major changes must be approved by a director.
- You will be notified via e-mail of their decision
- If you do not hear back from one of the directors within a week, please check with the admission office to see if your request has been received.

Receiving College Credits for Work Completed in High School
Many students enter Virginia Tech with college credits from either, Advance Placement (AP), Dual Enrollment, or International Baccalaureate (IB) programs. It is imperative that Virginia Tech receives information about your participation in these programs prior to orientation. Students who fail to inform Virginia Tech concerning these credits may be placed incorrectly in classes.
Checking Status of Work Completed in High School

Advance Placement Credits

- It is the student's responsibility to deny any credits over the limit. Failure to do so, could cause registration or graduation problems.
- Virginia Tech typically receives AP scores for all exams taken during the senior year provided Virginia Tech was listed as a receiving college.
- Student can review credit awards for specific exams by viewing the AP tables listed on the Registrar's Homepage www.registrar.vt.edu/registration/tests_for_credit.php
Dual Enrollment Courses

- Virginia Tech can not give credit for college credit using your high school transcript.
- It is the student's responsibility to contact the college issuing the credit to have official transcripts sent to Virginia Tech. Please do not depend on guidance counselors to forward this information.
