The College of Science advances discovery and solves real-world problems while producing the next generation of scientific leaders. Since its inception in 2003, the College of Science has launched a set of integrative initiatives for achieving world-class excellence in nanoscience, computational science, infectious diseases, developmental science across the life span, and energy and the environment. These initiatives provide a firm basis for innovative technologies and understanding complex systems that power the progress in all areas of discovery. Through these and emerging initiatives, the College of Science is creating an interdisciplinary research environment that is unique among top-tier research universities and establishing Virginia Tech as one of the premier universities in the country recognized for its research and scholarship.
