The College of Science at Virginia Tech, in support of the university’s strategic plan, is expanding its research presence in: Energy and the Environment, Nanoscale Science, Computational Science, and Developmental Science. Faculty members will be recruited across several colleges to promote research efforts in these areas. Subject to budgetary approval, we intend to recruit new faculty in Economics, Mathematics, Physics, Psychology, and Statistics within the College of Science.
Both junior and senior level candidates are encouraged to apply. Please visit www.science.vt.edu and click on the links under Job Openings. Consideration of applications will begin as early as December 1, 2008 and will continue until the positions are filled.
Virginia Tech is an AA/EEO employer; applications from members of underrepresented groups are especially encouraged.

Following the university's strategic plan, the College of Science at Virginia Tech (http://www.science.vt.edu), in collaboration with the Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Sciences (ICTAS) (www.ictas.vt.edu/), is seeking to strengthen research in ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENT through interdisciplinary faculty hires. As part of this initiative, the Department of Economics in the College of Science is searching to fill a tenure-track position to start in the fall of 2009 in Microeconomics or Game Theory, including (but not limited to) the theoretical analysis of the effects of energy and environmental policies. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.
The College of Science at Virginia Tech, in cooperation with the Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Science (ICTAS, http://www.ictas.vt.edu), is placing strong emphasis on research in computational science through interdisciplinary faculty hires across departments (http://www.science.vt.edu/). As part of this initiative, the Department of Mathematics anticipates a tenure-track opening in algebraic combinatorics and related areas to start in the Fall of 2009, subject to budgetary approval. Appointment at the assistant professor level is preferred but exceptional senior candidates will be considered.

As part of this initiative, the Department of Physics anticipates a tenure-track opening in Condensed Matter Theory to start in the Fall of 2009, subject to budgetary approval. Appointment at the assistant professor level is preferred but exceptional senior candidates will be considered. Current departmental strengths in condensed matter physics include molecular/organic electronics, quantum optics and transport, low-dimensional magnetism, complex metal oxides, and statistical and biological physics. Preference will be given to theorists who can expand our existing hard condensed matter experimental and theoretical efforts.
The Department of Psychology (http://www.psyc.vt.edu) and College of Science (http://www.science.vt.edu) at Virginia Tech are seeking to hire a tenure-track faculty member in the area of QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH METHODS, as part of a university-wide focus on health and developmental science. Candidates in all areas of quantitative psychology will be considered, with preference given to those specializing in analytical approaches which complement current strengths in the department including health, biological, clinical, developmental, industrial/organizational, and social-personality psychology. This position was approved at the assistant professor level, but dependent on qualifications, a higher rank may be considered. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.
