Dear COS Faculty,

It's spring and that means it's typically time to elect new faculty COS representatives to serve on University governance committees. Realizing how unpopular these elections have been (based on voter turnout), the executive committee of the Faculty Association has proposed new bylaws that do away with the election process and relieve considerable burden on the departments while making the distribution of faculty representation equitable and fair across all departments in the College.

Attached are the newly proposed bylaws and a short Powerpoint presentation outlining the main changes to the bylaws and the election process. If you should have questions or comments about the newly proposed bylaws, you will have the opportunity to express your thoughts and opinions at an upcoming COS Faculty Association reception (details forthcoming). In addition, you will have the opportunity to vote on the newly proposed bylaws via the Internet in the days following the reception.

Thank you for your time,
Tom Burbey
President, COS Faculty Association
