Important details to note . . .

  1. The College of Science academic scholarship application will be available begining on November 15, 2016, through the Financial Aid Gateway System and online forms. See individual scholarships below for more information. 
  2. The deadline for applications is January 31, 2017.
  3. Complete the scholarship application once. You will automatically be considered for any scholarship for which you qualify. The only two scholarships which require separate applications are the Dean's Roundtable Scholarship and the Alie Reichling Memorial Scholarship. See those individual scholarships for details on how to apply for them.
  4. To be considered for a College of Science Scholarship, please make sure you submit the following with your application: a resume or vita, a letter of recommendation (optional), a personal statement. (See this document for more information on the review process.)

  • If you are currently a Virginia Tech student, use your Virginia Tech PID and password to access the Gateway through the log in page. 
  • If you are not a current Virginia Tech student, you can create a USFA user account. Go to the log in page and select "Create an Account" at the bottom of the page. Follow the directions on the Account Creation page.

Step 2 – Complete the Demographic Information section

  • Once you have successfully logged in for the first time, you will need to provide some demographic information for your application.
  • You will be asked for your name, address, email address, phone number, birthday, and the high school from which you graduated. 
  • This information only needs to be submitted once, and is used for all scholarships that you apply for through the Scholarship Gateway.

Step 3 – Complete a scholarship application section

  • Complete the application section(s) for the scholarship(s) for which you wish to be considered.    
  • Please apply only for the scholarship programs you believe you may be eligible.

Graduate Level Scholarships

Fellowships

The Graduate School accepts department nominations for several fellowships for outstanding students: the Powell Fellowship, the Cunningham Fellowship, and the Congressional Fellowship.

There are other fellowships available through colleges and departments. Students are encouraged to contact their academic departments for information.

Scholarships

Many departments award scholarships specific to their programs. A description of the available scholarships is generally listed on the departments' web pages. Eligible students are offered these scholarships at the discretion of the department.

Other internal scholarships may be available through the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid. External scholarships may also be available to graduate students and can be accessed by Internet search.
