  1. The College of Science academic scholarship application will be available beginning August 14, 2017 through Scholarship Central. See individual scholarships below for more information.

College of Science Academic Scholarships

Requirements

Requirements

  • Student must be engaged in research or study that may help find a  solution to the problem of world hunger

Requirements:

  • Outstanding student preparing to enter medical school
  • Student must be able to demonstrate excellence in academics, leadership, and service
  • Individual must also be able to demonstrate financial need

Requirements:

  • Student must be a sophomore, junior, or senior
  • Must be a Virginia resident

  • Incoming freshman in the College of Science

 

Requirements

  • Incoming freshman majoring in biological sciences who graduated from Christiansburg High School. 

Requirements

  • Students enrolled in or entering the areas of Geological Sciences, Physics, Biological Sciences, or Chemistry with preference given to students in Geological Sciences
  • Well-rounded individuals who can demonstrate a balance of academic achievement and involvement in extracurricular activities
  • Individual must also be able to demonstrate financial need

  • Awarded student majoring in the College of Science; expected term of graduation must be Spring, Summer, or Fall 2018 or 2019
  • Students must have a 3.5 GPA or higher
  • Award amount:  Runner ups $2000 and Roundtable Scholar $7000

  • Student must have a GPA of 3.75 or higher
  • S/he must have attended public high school

  • A student majoring in Biological Sciences or Chemistry
  • The student must be enrolled in pre-med or pre-dent program

  • Must have completed one semester at VT
  • Term GPA of 3.4 or higher for every term at VT
  • Demonstrate leadership either in student government, the Corps of Cadets, or Greek System
  • Must demonstrate financial need

  • Student must be majoring in either Statistics or Mathematics
  • Her/his primary residence must be Connecticut, New York, or Virginia

  • The student's primary residence must be Southwestern Virginia 
  • S/he must be pursuing degree in the College of Science
  • Demonstrate high academic achievement
  • Demonstrate financial need

  • Students majoring in a program in the Academy of Integrated Science: Computational Modeling & Data Analytics (CMDA), Nanoscience (NANO), or Systems Biology (SYSB).

  • Awarded to students who graduated from a high school in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, or Virginia.

  • Academic Achievement (GPA of 2.7 or higher)

  • Student must be able to demonstrate strong academic achievement
  • S/he must also be able to demonstrate strong personal achievement, strong character, and love for learning

  • Student must be a graduating senior at the time the scholarship is awarded

Graduate Level Scholarships

Fellowships

The Graduate School accepts department nominations for several fellowships for outstanding students: the Powell Fellowship, the Cunningham Fellowship, and the Congressional Fellowship.

There are other fellowships available through colleges and departments. Students are encouraged to contact their academic departments for information.

Scholarships

Many departments award scholarships specific to their programs. A description of the available scholarships is generally listed on the departments' web pages. Eligible students are offered these scholarships at the discretion of the department.

Other internal scholarships may be available through the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid. External scholarships may also be available to graduate students and can be accessed by Internet search.
